About Grand-Tech
I'm Patrick Wink. I started Grand-Tech in Prairieville after watching my grandmother get left behind by technology that everyone around her had quietly decided she ought to already understand.
Nobody ever taught her. That's the whole of it. Her generation was handed devices that showed up fully formed, with no instructions and no patience attached, and then got treated as though not knowing was a personal failing.
It isn't. I have never met anyone who couldn't learn this. I've met plenty of people who were never given the time.
What I believe about this work
Most technology help is built around the device. Mine is built around the person holding it.
That means going slowly. It means explaining the same thing three times without sighing. It means writing the steps down in large print before I leave, so you aren't depending on remembering what I said. And it means not taking the phone out of your hands to do it faster — because then you've watched someone else fix it, and you still can't do it yourself.
The stakes are higher than people assume. This isn't only about video calls with grandchildren, though that's the best part of the job. It's your bank account. Your Medicare portal. The text message that isn't really from your grandson. Being able to use these things is how you keep hold of your own money and your own life.
What you should expect from me
You're thinking about letting a stranger into your home — or your mother's home — and handing him your devices. You should be careful about that. Here is what I offer so you don't have to take it on faith.
My name and my face are on this page. The same person turns up every visit.
I never ask for your banking passwords. For anything else, you type it, not me. I'll look away.
I don't install remote-access software. Unless you ask for it and watch me set it up.
I don't make unsolicited calls. If anyone phones claiming to be from Grand-Tech, hang up and call me on the number below.
I'll give you references. Real clients nearby who've told me I can pass their number along.
